What did you during the Iraq War?

I was with Patrol Forces Southwest Asia(PATFORSWA) from Jun 2003 until May of 2004, out of Manama Bahrain. I was an independent duty corpsman assigned to provide medical care for several patrol craft and the larger support unit. The highlight of my time over there was being able to do some time on a patrol boat, going up the rivers in Iraq. There were some scary times, but I am glad I did it! I will do it all over again, if the opportunity arises.

I rode in an up armored HMMWV over the Tigris river once....kinda neat to be able to see the river so you hear about so much growing up in school and what not.

I was thinking the same thing. I was just bummed to see so much trash in it. At the mouth of the rivers, there are lots of purposely sunken ships and other trash all over the place. For an area so rich in history, I am bummed to see it like that.

I was a Combat Engineer assigned to an Infantry Brigade North of Baghdad. I surveyed ECP's, Iraq Police Stations, Iraqi Army Stations, Iraqi Polling Stations, Iraq Bases, Set up TCP's, Manned a .50 and a 240B, and generally ran around raising as much hell as I could.

As a Tank Company First Sergeant I deployed to Iraq twice. In 2006 I spent half the year working out of a joint U.S. / Iraqi compound 6 miles north of Camp Taji, pulling security on a 10K stretch of MSR Tampa, the last half of the year we worked the east side of the river with the IA. In '08/'09 I worked and lived in a COP in downtown Baghdad al Jadida (southeast Baghdad) with logistic support coming from FOB Rustamiyah.

Wow, that sound awesome. I was always impressed when we came across a tank platoon. They look so damned powerful. Thank you for your service!

Thanks Sarge it was fun most of the time. Some times it was down right sucky. But I can say that we brought our whole detachment home with 28 CAB's and no Iraqi marksmenship badges and only a few frayed nerves.

Biffjr99. Where you guys the lone 2 M1's facing up and down MSR Tampa in the middle of road. If you were I passed you guys or your friends a few times in the middle of the night in 05-06. Just wondering We did the Taji run to take weapons and give them back to the Iraqi insurgents at the weapons Bazzar outside Taji.....oh sorry to give then to the IA who then gave them to the weapons Bazar....LOL. What a world

I am mostly proud of the fact that we all got them and that I cam see all my guys around Oahu every few weeks or so. I just wish that every unit could have the same luck as we did.
